"What makes us tick
Are we mentally sick
Feeling inside that drive us like pride
Or emotional scars from our friends that have died
And make us build walls so incredible high
They exceed the ceiling from the terrified feelings
Which we often repress and end up depressed
Some vent it as rage, it's the fashion these days
In a twisted society, we drown in anxiety
Has push come to shove, have we killed the dove
Are we caught in a fit, what makes us tick
Has man gone insane, are we feeling the strain
We must dig and must pick at what makes us tick
Has push come to shove, have we killed the dove
Are we caught in the thick as to what makes us tick
Can you feel the pain that I feel
No
So let me tell you about what is real
Go
The pain inside, it kills me, I cry
So
What is it that makes us tick
Can you hear the cries that I cry
Why
Leave me alone, I'm ready to die
Die
For me I lie to myself
Just what is it that makes us tick"

You'll never get an honest answer to such questions.

Just do it and see what transpires.

SNAP!

Just kidding ;)
I am quick tempered and get upset pretty easily but it's more anger not offence problem. Equally unpleasant though...

Surely there are things which make people upset. Usually it;s the little things, right?

If someone would call you names?
I don't think so. I would be too busy looking for Burr scars or the dent in their forehead.
If someone would make fun of you or your physical appearance?
I'm vain...probably internalize it until a compliment came along.
If someone would make fun of your family?
To me, fun is fun. Disrespect is disrespect. I would just walk.
If someone would make fun of your nationality or heritage?
I was socialized to be edgy about that but now it's tempered by being around others and their own points of view.
If someone would make fun of your religion or believes or idols?
Nope.
If someone would talk down on your work or achievements?
Achievements? This question is too hypothetical...hehe :)))
At what point would you snap? Or draw the line?
Nothing short of a physical threat could make me snap. Not a drink in my face, not a provoking shove, not a joke about my mom. The most you'd get would be that sideways tip of the head that dogs do when they seem to think "huh?"
PS: What else could there be out there to offend people?
Okay. So it takes a lot to touch my brain that way. Mine. But I feel protective about other people's rights to quiet enjoyment. Let them walk to the Mapplethorpe exhibit - their own volition, but don't interrupt them in a pub or park with our unsolicited art.

If someone would call you names?

In the past yes, now not at all.
If someone would make fun of you or your physical appearance?

Well, I am not perfect. I know that and I can laugh about myself too.
If someone would make fun of your family?

Depends, however probably yes.
If someone would make fun of your nationality or heritage?

We have to laugh about it, because we Poles are too serious.
If someone would make fun of your religion or believes or idols?

So? We can discuss about it, it s someones point of view. Just would start talking and find out why.

If someone would talk down on your work or achievements?

No.
At what point would you snap? Or draw the line?
I would never snap for a word abuse. That would be a provocation. I would lost my face. Here we are talking about "the normal" conversation, not during the binge drinking party ;-) lol

If someone would make fun of you or your physical appearance?

Nah.
If someone would make fun of your family?

When I was younger, probably. Nowadays? I'd just ignore the nasty comments.
If someone would make fun of your nationality or heritage?

Not really, besides - it happens all the time. Other nationalities are making fun of Poles, just as the Poles are making fun of other nations.

That's just the way it is. :)
If someone would make fun of your religion or believes or idols?

No, besides - if someone has to use such drastic measures, they're probably out of all the valid arguments. Which automatically makes me the victor in a given quarrel.
If someone would talk down on your work or achievements?

Now shit's getting serious!

I don't know, really. I'd also like to keep it that way. :)

Other than religion? Politics, sexuality, cultural differences... Lots of things.

If someone would make fun of your nationality or heritage?
Couldn't care less.
If someone would make fun of your religion or believes or idols?
Couldn't care less.
If someone would talk down on your work or achievements?
Everyone who's achieved more that I have is free to say whatever they want about my 'work or achievements'.
At what point would you snap? Or draw the line?
I'd snap if any of the above started to interfere with my or my family's everyday life.

Are we free to make any experiments?

Personally, I've learnt to observe what others do, rather than listen to what they say.

Although, in your case, Jarek, I'd say you were a well-balanced and not over-sensitive person.warren whitmore edytował(a) ten post dnia 22.03.09 o godzinie 15:56

It's second conditional, mate.

Tho' why it's necessary here, I don't know.

I'm not talking about the past.

That's an odd suggestion.

We can try it in the Aardvark.

I once read a book about 'The Sun' newspaper. The then editor, Kelvin McKenzie, liked effing and blinding at his staff. One employee, rather than get offended, just sat there with a smile on his face, whatever his boss threw at him. This made McKenzie, even more mad. He then published in his newspaper an article about 'Higgy the human sponge', together with the man's phone number, and invited readers to insult him, claiming he enjoyed nothing better.

As a side note, after receiving a call from an irate reder, McKenzie told the man he was banned from reading 'the Sun'. The man phoned him back to ask whether his wife was banned too.

Without doubt, the smiling response is the correct one. If you insult someone you want a reaction, just to see whether the words hit home or not. If the recipient of the insult simply doesn't respond, the one who insults loses.warren whitmore edytował(a) ten post dnia 22.03.09 o godzinie 16:34

Temat: What would offend you?

IMO it depends who is the offending party.

If it's some internet troll, it's easier not to be offended.
But if it's someone you know and don't fancy then being indifferent is quite hard.Lidia K. edytował(a) ten post dnia 22.03.09 o godzinie 16:35

I do that often. It's not about who wins and who loses in my case - I'm simply not a fan of escalation of aggression.
