hmm... no experience really, however I see nothing wrong in it, on the contrary, it must be interesting and hmm... challenging. I dated some girls abroad and this "culture differences factor" was always fascinating!Although I must add that polish girls are simply the best! My girlfriend especially! :)

As for your question Warren, there is no single answer, and you should know it all too well. I think cultural differences are not so crucial now in deciding whether we're going to be happy with someone; after all, we live in a global village, and most of us know a lot about other cultures and countries. What we don't know, we can learn, accept or rebuke.
It sure is a challenge, especially if you move to another country and leave your family and friends behind, but I believe if two people love and respect each other, they can work it out. Sometimes the problems arise on a personal level rather than a cultural one, as with any other relationships.
Having said that, I never dated/been married to someone from a really different culture, as both the USA and the UK are within what we call "the West" and I have always been familiar with most aspects of life there, especially in the States (been there, done that). I sometimes find it more challenging to adapt to living in Poland, and all my Polish-Polish relationships haven't been extremely successful.
Having to adapt to the British accent and all those crazy words that I unwittingly incorporate into my vocabulary (trainers!) is so much harder...
We never date a person's cultural background, we date a living, breathing, and, hopefully, thinking creature and whether we make it work or not depends solely on our actions, feelings, and emotions. Of course, if you know Jack shit :) about your partner's home country, it's going to be more challenging. I, for instance, couldn't stand country and western but still learned line dancing, and as much as I hate British humor, I do watch old shows such as the Fast Show

In other words, when a mixed nationality relationship fails, we tend to blame it on "cultural differences" rather than ourselves, which, after all, is human.
So, next time, just marry rich.

Are mixed nationality marriages/relationships a good idea?It`s hard to decide whether or not they are good. They`re difficult. I mean marriages with a really big cultural difference, e.g. European/Chinese. A friend of mine, who has been living in China for some 10 years (with a Polish family), claims that Poles have less difficulty in getting used to Chinese environment and culture in China than the Chinese in Poland.
I think that people have to love each other very much and be aware of the difficulties which stem from their cultural background. More flexible cultures are more likely to overcome the difficulties.
What are your experiences?

A close friend of mine got married to a Japanese guy. Been happy for several years now, and they're living in Japan.
She's Irish American, btw. Ten inches taller than her husband and a redhead.

I didn't say i don't have any experience at all! What I meant by "no experience really" is that dating is not marriage or even relationship - which I understand as living together and struggling with every-day life.
When you date someone you get together, what? several times a week maybe? living your own lives, seperate housing and so on.
but anyway.. it's either my post was not clear enough or I misunderstood the question... or perhaps one should read posts more carefully so I wouldn't waste time on additional explanations.

It's really not that big of a deal... it all depends on the people involved. There are so many mixed couples that made it and are happy together ... I really don't see what the issue is... and I'm not just saying this based on my own example. Living in NYC I've had so many friends who were involved with people from all walks of life and all parts of the world... all it takes is an open mind.
