Might RA be Canada's answer to the great Mirek 'Mirpo' Polyniak?

I have had some interesting personal correspondence with him regarding my move to Poland.

Someone can be a pretentious prick, and at the same time interesting.

He apparently believes he has something to sell to Polish people - bullshit I would imagine.

I'm really curious to learn how many takers he manages to find.

He has to earn a certain amount of money to support himself so a few people must be willing to pay for whatever it is he happens to be offering.

It's just is bad fortune he left coming here 15 years too late.warren whitmore edytował(a) ten post dnia 03.03.08 o godzinie 14:14

I can't imagine anyone believe the "Think in English" idea (or whatever it's called) is a genuine way to learn English and be able to speak the language with native-like quality. It must be a bit like the Callan method, only with less PR :)

I think it pretty unlikely anyone is going to come up with a completely new angle for teaching English.

A better idea is simply to take the best of what is presently on offer, and try and improve it a little.

People will never give up attempting to find short cuts to becoming proficient in English - unfortunately, however, there simply aren't any that are effective - the only way to succeed is by hard work, perseverance, and extensive contact with the English speaking world.

And, if anyone doesn't believe me, Mr R A Whipple, and his attractive assistant will provide you with all the answers, (at an extortionate price no doubt)

Next time just tie me down, make me listen to "April Love" 150 times, then pull the bones out of my feet with with wire cutters.

...although, now I am able to appreciate Mr. Jones' new photograph as a brilliant manipulation of negative space, whereas previously, "'ey Steve...the new pic: me likey." :)))

To be honest Warren I did not share his points of view but he seemed a decent individual and did not behave in any manner I would feel was inappropriate. As a whole I have spoken with many people - Poles and non-Poles - who have shared both the positive and negative when it comes to moving to Poland. He was no different in that regard.

I cannot comment on his business approach as I have not interacted with him on that level. I leave that to those who have dealt with him in that setting. He has been in Poland for some time (I believe he is still in Poland) so he must have had some success to date.

I've come across the guy before, and am racking my brains where and why. The picture seems familiar, and it's really frustrating that I can't remember. From the address on the website, it seems he's a near neighbour, though I haven't ever heard the dulcet tones of any Canadians (lovely accent) while I've been here. A very strictly residential address too.

Maybe his motivational speaking is good - wonder what it's about? The website seems tantalising, but then again, it generally costs money to be tantalised.

But the 'think in English'!!! Doesn't sound like anything new, and these home-made methods that some schools do just end up annoying
the teachers and leading the clients to pick up a copy of the yellow pages.Jon M. edytował(a) ten post dnia 03.03.08 o godzinie 19:47

I agree! It always seems to work beter if you use the best bits from all the methods as and when appropriate. A 'toolbag of skills' as some people call it, and it gives the students a bit of variety and the teacher has a chance to choose what really works in that class.

I don't either, I always change methods to find the most suitable one for each person.

By the way, I wonder if somebody should invite the PR person from Crow Communications to this group. If we haven't potentially offended her!

good idea :) it would be courteous to involve her and Mr R.A.W in the discussion rather than just bitching about them behind their backs:)
