Temat: Dairy exports expected to decline in 2009

The monetary value of Polish exports of milk products could decline by 20% in 2009, according to the Foundation of Assistance Programmes for Agriculture (FAPA), quoted by Rzeczpospolita. In the first five months of 2009 the value of dairy products (excluding ice cream) sold abroad declined by 30% year on year to €336m. The comparative lack of demand and low prices on the global markets has discouraged some producers from selling their products abroad. In the last few months SM Ostroleka, one of the leading exporters among Polish dairy producers, almost completely abandoned exports, according to Tadeusz Nadrowski, the company’s chairman, quoted in the newspaper.
Nevertheless, the volume of exports in the first five months of 2009 remained similar to that of equivalent period of last year, i.e. 300,000 tonnes. In June 2009 the cost of butter on the Western European markets was 29% less than that of the equivalent month of last year.
