I've decided to establish a clan of Whiskey consumers.
How you can be a member of that very great CLAN?

All you need to do is to like whiskey!!!Łukasz Klejment edytował(a) ten post dnia 25.08.08 o godzinie 12:10

My last shoot of whiskey was the very great 12y old Talisker, heart of the Skye. Tested like kiss of virgin, delicious with full of flavor.

I really recommend...

Dear Martin,
How much do you like Whiskey?

I'm addicted to Glen Ord, which I've been drinking for about seven years. Since its taste remains true to the MacKenzie creed ("I shine, not burn"), it's one of the few whiskies that can be recommended to women. Nonetheless, despite its smoothness, it retains a unique, dry taste of peat.

Sometimes I buy a bottle of Cardhu or Glenfiddich, for variety's sake.

I like my single malt without ice, and no, I don't like bourbon.

What do you think about brutalising the very taste of whiskey or scotch, with an ice or a Coke? As you might be killed for that, is some countries across the world.

It's like wearing a condom on your head or fitting wooden wheels on your car: an appaling case of misuse. If one cannot handle the taste on the palate, they should refrain from drinking.

For the above reason I don't drink vodka or tequila. I would need gallons of juice to wash it down, which would look miserable.Adam Lipiński edytował(a) ten post dnia 25.08.08 o godzinie 13:27

What if you don't like whiskey, but do like whisky?

Actually, it all tastes the same to me, and I violate it by putting ginger ale (Canada Dry) in it. I think that I can't become part of your club.

I'm with you on this one... but I must admit that I've had some 60 year old whisky at one point and it did not taste the same... it was actually pretty good. I should also mention that I hate hard liquor. Anything other than beer is a no go in my books (I have a bartending license too haha). Sorry guys… you’re too cool for my school.

I truly share your opinion, If I may add something which I have heard from a friend of mine, who said that: "Drinking whiskey with an ice it's like aiming with a sniper rifle at Osama bin laden, and having no bullets in the magazine".

For the above reason I don't drink vodka or tequila. I would need gallons of juice to wash it down, which would look miserable.

That's why while I am drinking a vodk,a I ought to eat "fatty food" like Russians do. As a result I don't have hangover in the next day ;)

It's OK, it can be Whiskey made in Ireland chiefly from barley, or just Whisky a liquor made from fermented mash of grain.

All you need to do is to answer

Sorry guys… you’re too cool >for my school- I like that rhyme hehe... Actually I like beer a lot!!!

Guys,

All you need to do is to answer my simple question: How much do you like your favourite liquids- (Whiskey, Whisky, Vodka, Beer or whatever it might be)?

I'm a pussy when it comes to drinking, I'll be the first one to admit. I like me some beer now and again, but over all I really try to stay away from alcohol all together. I used to drink a bit when younger; it lost its appeal to me after a while though.

I truly admire your attitude and honesty... Furthermore I think that too much drinking, puts anyone in the very lost position. Which mean that we ought to dose alcohol, as it might lead us to the very bane!!!

Personally, I'm not much of a whisky or whiskey drinker. Drink whisky only occasionally and wouldn't be able to distinguish between good and bad one. Like Rafał, I love beer. Your discussion inspired me to read a little about whisky. Hope you won't be angry with me for sending with this post some tips on how to drink whisky given by David "Robbo" Robertson, a master distiller, and some basic whisky glossary.

(1) Drink before lunch or dinner. Your senses are heightened as you begin to get really hungry. (2) Group your scotches from mild to robust. That way, your tongue won’t get anaesthetized and you’ll be able to pick out distinct flavors even after ten tastes. (3) Use a small wine or sherry glass. The top of the glass is narrower than the base, so all the delicious aromas are concentrated there. (4) Add roughly the same amount of water as whisky. Sampling whisky neat is likely to hurt the nose and numb the tongue, rendering both senses less acute than they should be. Use bottled water. Tap is chlorinated, and its smell could affect what you taste. (5) Look at the color of the whisky. It’s an indicator of cask type, strength, and age. A pale yellow malt usually means it was fermented in bourbon barrels; a dark mahogany color signifies sherry casks. Beware: Many companies add spirit caramel to artificially darken the color. (6) Tilt the glass. The liquor that slides down the side is called the “tears”—the slower they run, the thicker, older, and stronger the whisky—a sign of quality. (7) Watch for bubbles. If they persist within a few seconds of pouring, you’re probably dealing with a cask-strength whisky and you may need to add more water. If tasted undiluted, whiskies this strong will go round your heart rapidly and you may overheat. (8) Price isn’t everything. Some old whiskies taste like sucking on a log. If you like that, great. If not, buy 100 bottles of a more reasonably priced dram instead.

On the Taste Trail
Scotland’s single-malt regions.

1. The Highlands is the largest region and therefore the hardest to define. Coast whiskies might have a touch of smoke, while inland products tend to be more honeyed.

2. Islay malts are the most distinctive, easily identified by their smoky smell and peaty taste.

3. Speyside is home to more than half the distilleries in the country; they produce sweet, fruity, and very drinkable whisky.

4. Lowland distilleries number fewer than in any other region; their whiskies are lighter and softer, with citrus overtones.

Glossary

Malt What’s left after barley has germinated (thereby changing the starch to sugar). Single malts are purer and more distinctive than blends.

Cask The barrel used to store whisky is usually oak and always secondhand (for flavor). Distilleries sometimes use sherry, bourbon, and port casks for flavor variety.

Cask strength Whisky that has not been diluted after aging. Often more than 50 percent alcohol by volume.
