How would you describe your social life?

I used to be much more social, prior to my kids being born. I'm a home body now and while I still do go out now and again, it is usually limited to when I play a gig.
Do you need the company of other people to feel good?

Not at all... for years Kari used to work on Saturdays, I'd spend endless hours playing records... and I mean 7 - 8 hrs at a time behind turn tables... I now pay for it with a bad back and chiropractor visits.
Do you spend your free time with people from work?

Not really, there are few people from my office that I've gone to the movies with or invited them to my gigs, but it's never anything more engaging than a couple of drinks once every few months.

Would you change anything about it?

Nah... not right now. I love my kids and spending time with them. It's a lot of fun, it has changed me a whole lot, my outlook on life, friends, people in general. I am now constantly focusing on them and self improvement, where before they were around it was all about helping others and doing things for other people who needed it most. I am sure ... or at least I am hoping to one day get back to doing community type activities, but for now it's just my family that I devote my time to.

Non-existent.

No. Never have done.

I could do with some 'mates'. My best friend left Szczecin a couple of years ago.warren whitmore edytował(a) ten post dnia 18.10.08 o godzinie 00:54

I know everybody and nobody at the same time. Outsider inside. It's good to meet girls and get things done without any deeper involvement. On the downside, it creates a feeling of emptiness.

Lots of work and regular clubbing on a Saturday night. Opera once a month or so. (a Faust premiere coming soon!) I drive to "spots" organised by the tuning club I belong to.

I screw a rather beautiful but monosyllabic model (photos on request, I won't post them here) and go to restaurants with an intelligent banker (but the photos are nothing special).
Do you need the company of other people to feel good?

Actually, people get me down, but being a show-off, I do need an audience. Still, I have my own internal happiness generator. Apart from that, I work with people (about 36 hours per week, not counting the driving), so obviously I can be fed up with them.
Do you spend your free time with people from work?
Rarely, I deem it utterly unprofessional. But if I do, they're my real friends.
Would you change anything about it?
No, I wouldn't be doing something if I didn't thrive on it!!! I just need more time to be with myself.

Now I'm sipping wine and listening to some flamenco nouveau. Last Sunday I took a long walk in the forest and savoured every minute of it. I should read more, perhaps write more in Polish (I used to write stories for my friends, and I've 'accomplished' one shitty juvenile novel).

Life's unfathomably good!!! :) But the day is too short.Adam L. edytował(a) ten post dnia 18.10.08 o godzinie 01:26

I was merely trying to answer the question.

Let me elucidate the basics:

Obrazek

And replace my boorish words with those of Baudelaire:

Alas, human vices, however horrible one might imagine them to be, contain the proof (were it only in their infinite expansion) of man's longing for the infinite; but it is a longing that often takes the wrong route.... It is my belief that the reason behind all culpable excesses lies in this depravation of the sense of the infinite.

(...)

It is unfortunately very true that, without leisure and money, love can be no more than an orgy of the common man.... Instead of being a sudden impulse full of ardour and reverie, it becomes a distastefully utilitarian affair.

(...)

Why does the man of intellect prefer whores to society women, although both types are equally stupid? Find the answer.

-----------

So if Baudelaire himself couln't find the ultimate answer to all the questions, how can we?Adam L. edytował(a) ten post dnia 18.10.08 o godzinie 02:44

Like a bee...but a bee that can go where it wants :)))
Do you need the company of other people to feel good?
I think so. I'm gregarious by nature, I'm from a very large family, and I just don't like to be by myself.
Do you spend your free time with people from work?
I have. I used to. The more the merrier, man. I wouldn't date a coworker, though. This isn't an ethical principle. It's more about rythm.

I`m sociable but also busy most of the time so it`s pretty hard to be available.
Do you need the company of other people to feel good?
Yes, but sometimes I need to be alone for a while.
Do you spend your free time with people from work?
No, although some people from my former workplaces have become my friends.

Would you change anything about it?
Yes. I`d like to live a well-balanced life. I wouldn`t like to work at the weekends or in the evenings any longer.

Occasional meetings with friends... Occasional meetings with strangers. Bizarre chance encounters. The odd crazy night in Sopot. I always end up bumping into people I know, or meeting new people. The odd evening in with friends with me as Captain Cook. Crazy conferences. GL events - they've always been cool; recommend it! I kind of like it all!
Do you need the company of other people to feel good?

I suppose ultimately, yes. I am, however, able to spend vast tracts of time on my own. I grew up largely on my own. It doesn't bother me that much. However, I'm not really the kind of guy who walks into a bar and starts chatting freely to strangers. Sometimes that does happen naturally. That's always cool.
Do you spend your free time with people from work?

No. I wish I could but, given that one day I might have to fire them, it's probably sensible not to. I have on occasion broken that rule and lived to regret it.

Would you change anything about it?

Only the last point. That I'd like to be able to relate to the cool people I have at work as people and not constantly be "the boss"Steve Jones edytował(a) ten post dnia 18.10.08 o godzinie 23:50

Used to be thriving, now very dangerously veering towards the edge of existence... Although I do consider you (ppl on Anglo) to be a part of my social life. Especially when we do get to meet irl.
Do you need the company of other people to feel good?

Not necessarily, though when I haven't been out for a while (and this happens when I throw myself in work so much that I neglect the warning signals), then I really do feel bad.
Do you spend your free time with people from work?

Not really. I used to when I was in London, but they have an entirely different work-social life culture. I loved the Friday after work drinks, going out to restaurants even when it seriously damaged your budget, because everyone was doing it. Where I am now, nobody does it. I mean, even asking people out for a drink feels like a drag, they just don't seem to bother, whereas in the UK, it just went without saying... Or maybe I'm really getting and old, sad git...

Great - ever since the whole band thing took an uplift.
Do you need the company of other people to feel good?
Not really, I fell as good when I'm alone. Actually those are the only moments when I can fully recharge my batteries.
Do you spend your free time with people from work?
Yes, we occasionally go out for pizza&beer. Plus one of my workmates plays the bass in my band.

:)) I kind of found the "screwing a model" thing amusing because it's exactly the sort of thing Adam would write!

Why did he write this? Magda, you're a psychologist so let's compare notes. Here's my take on it. Here are some possibilities:

- it was meant to shock, surprise or impress. Therefore, attention seeking.
- it was meant to show-off, to stoke the ego
- it was a display of form over substance, a cold exterior to defend the inner self from possible emotional damage.

Do we really believe it, though? Is there a softer Adam lurking underneath? Or is it really just fast cars, designer clothes and fast designer women?

I dare say not all of adam is like what he likes to put on display here. We all tend to exaggerate a bit on gl but irl turn out to be different. Ilter, though, is the same!

And shock it did. Having read the 'screwing' bit I couldn't concentrate on what Adam wrote afterwards. Instead, in my mind I pictured him... well, screwing a model. Screwing, screwing and screwing.

I reckon we're all much the same on GL as we are in real life.

On GL Adam comes across as a degenerate sleazeball of simian appearance.

IRL Adam comes across as a degenerate sleazeball of simian appearance.

To be honest, my initial reaction was similar to Magda's. But then I counted to 10. And even so, (as this was one of the last posts I read yesterday) I went to bed with the words 'screwing a model' going round my head. And the picture of Adam, with the look of emptiness in his eyes, torn between a beautiful but stupid woman and an ugly but intelligent one. I really took it to heart.
