Thanks to Marek Kardysz for these questions!

I wonder how many of the 1500 plus members of Anglosphere will bother answering...

Let's try it out.

Here we go!

1. Is war an inherent feature of man? Is the human world capable of existing without war?

2. Why is a human being able to commit suicide? Do you know any other creature capable of doing so?

3. Have you ever heard about the 2012 year prophecy? What's your opinion about it?

4. Do you think cruelty depicted in some computer games and movies negatively affects people's behaviour in the real world?

5. Have you ever dreamed about a journey around the world?

1. Is war an inherent feature of man?
Yes, it is kinda inherited feature (haha, helloo Sylwia!)
Is the human world capable of existing without war?
Yes, but not for nao!
2. Why is a human being able to commit suicide?
It's just a way to die. Do we judge people who'd like to die on their desperately sick beds? (Yes you may, but I don't)
Do you know any other creature capable of doing so?
Yup, whales.
3. Have you ever heard about the 2012 year prophecy?
Yes, the poles has to switch sides at the new year's eve of 2012
What's your opinion about it?
Total BS. It can happen 500.000 years later, though.
4. Do you think cruelty depicted in some computer games and movies negatively affects people's behaviour in the real world?
Sure it does.
5. Have you ever dreamed about a journey around the world?
No. It's a pretty boring idea, for me.

PS. Joking manner is courtesy of being the 1st one to write answers.

I say high five to you ;) hello!

1. Yes, it is possible only with some criteria. People will find a way to share. When they will learn it to bring to a higher level of communication and action. There are wars in some places, in some places there are none wars. Why in other places everything is organized that different that most of people are pleased so they don't start wars.

2. That is the unbelievable decision what human can do. It's so many power needed to break the system which secure human to do not kill them selfs. Why? To be in other place that this.

3. I have heard. The calendar of May will finished and all the world will be gone. Interesting where? Can't wait to see! (if it's true!) But I still wait for UFO to come. Have you guys heard when they are coming?

4. Yeah, deepens who. I know that in movie it is just a ketchup so it as nothing to do with the real blood.

5. No. A few cool places would be ... cool! ;)Melanie Martha edytował(a) ten post dnia 10.07.09 o godzinie 01:43

Thanks:)

I wonder how many of the 1500 plus members of Anglosphere will bother answering...

Let's try it out.

Here we go!

1. Is war an inherent feature of man? Is the human world capable of existing without war?
No, we develop our points of views in opposition to something. We need an enemy just to feel better.

2. Why is a human being able to commit suicide? Do you know any other creature capable of doing so?
Like all creatures in suffer bigger than usual, it is a right of every person to terminate his/her life on a wish at any moment. Never save a person who wants to do it, unless you are able to make her/his life better and solve the problems.

One of the most annoying situations is when brave policeman saves a suicider and then goes away and the saved person remains on this worst of the worlds to still deal with life.

Geese commit suicide as well if they suffer too much.

3. Have you ever heard about the 2012 year prophecy? What's your opinion about it?
Never heard of it. I don't believe in such stuff unless it is told by people who really know what they say, but do they still exist?
In the world of reason we tend to ignore or destroy wisdom of primitive children of nature. So if I meet a real shaman I shall listen. But show me the one...

4. Do you think cruelty depicted in some computer games and movies negatively affects people's behaviour in the real world?
Yes and no. It doesn't cause agression, but increases one which is already there in a person.

5. Have you ever dreamed about a journey around the world?
Yes I have. Keep on planning :)

Thanks, Marek.
1. Is war an inherent feature of man?
It seems like it. "...the father of man," as someone said.
existing without war?
I don't know.
2. Why is a human being able to commit suicide? Do you know any
Suicide means different things to different people. In some jurisdictions a medical examiner or coroner is bound by law to determine a decedent's death to be suicide even in case they ingested too much cold medicine accidentally because, as a matter of fact, the person did kill themself. As to intentional suicide - mental illness related to a myriad of etiologies and the manifestations of them. Obviously, we have the cultural influences on mental health considerations.

other creature capable of doing so?

If the implication is that there exists a cognitive basis or a pathology for the intent, probably not. I dont know though, and I would defer to the cool gentleman from Turkey about whales. :)Then there are ducks who grab onto some weeds under water and hold on, thereby drowning themselves in what was supposed to be an effort to hide from a predator.
3. Have you ever heard about the 2012 year prophecy? What's your opinion about it?
I think around 56,000,000 humans will die, but not from some astrophysical event. From Cardiovasular disease, cancer, accidents, malaria, communicable disease, violence...
4. Do you think cruelty depicted in some computer games and movies negatively affects people's behaviour in the real world?
I don't know much about it. Maybe it gives some people ideas who were already predisposed. Fires them up. Like what's written above.

1. Is war an inherent feature of man? Is the human world capable of existing without war?

"We can, for example, be fairly confident that either there will be a world without war or there won't be a world - at least, a world inhabited by creatures other than bacteria and beetles, with some scattering of others. " - Noam Chomsky

2. Why is a human being able to commit suicide? Do you know any other creature capable of doing so?

Lemings

3. Have you ever heard about the 2012 year prophecy? What's your opinion about it?

"Bring it on" - George W. Bush

4. Do you think cruelty depicted in some computer games and movies negatively affects people's behaviour in the real world?

Nonsense, following this logic, I should be cutting people up to pieces and storing them in my basement... I don't have a basement.

1. Is war an inherent feature of man? Is the human world capable of existing without war?
No is not inherent but if you keep number of humans in diverse environment they start fighting for things which are short on their territory.
2. Why is a human being able to commit suicide? Do you know any other creature capable of doing so?
Its very sad that some take their lives. Why? Number of reasons (personal, illnes, incapable). Other creatures: Lemings, overfed geeses commit suicide as well.
3. Have you ever heard about the 2012 year prophecy? What's your opinion about it?
I havent heard.
4. Do you think cruelty depicted in some computer games and movies negatively affects people's behaviour in the real world?
I don't know, but it might be true in some cases. If you parents don't build strong morality and you exposed to violet games, films it could blur wrong and right.

:) I was a little kidding with my answers #1a, and #2b
The war is a social/behavioural issue rather than the genes, which can take hundreds of years to get rid of.
The truth about whales (why they beach themselves) is still unknown - the chances that they commit suicide is very low.

I wonder how many of the 1500 plus members of Anglosphere will bother answering...

Let's try it out.

Here we go!

1. Is war an inherent feature of man? Is the human world capable of existing without war?
No, because of its causes - rage, fanatism, pride, greed and many others. These features are negative but still have become natural over past ages.We won't get rid of them. Ever.

2. Why is a human being able to commit suicide? Do you know any other creature capable of doing so?

Why? because it's homo sapiens sapiens. I don't know any other creature that commits suicide.
But still most of those desperados just attempt just to search for help.
A story comes to my mind:
My father is a psychiatrist and he had a patient once who tried to hang himself in a toilet. he tried to tie the rope around a heavy, cast iron flush (many years ago they were hung about 2 m. over the toilet.
Anyway, as he jumped off the toilet, the cistern fell down on him and hit his head and broke his collarbone. Of course he explained honestly in hospital what happened and my dad was asked to examined the patient.
When my dad came to see him he told him the whole story once again and said angrily:
"Doc, I could have got f***ing killed there!"

Lovely..

3. Have you ever heard about the 2012 year prophecy? What's your opinion about it?

In the end, we all have to die. But indian calendar was surprisingly very precise. Compared to these we use today. Some test showed that the calculated the revolution of the Moon and were mistaken only by several second (20 or so)

4. Do you think cruelty depicted in some computer games and movies negatively affects people's behaviour in the real world?
Yes, definitely MAY affect. But it is not a simple action-reaction thing.
5. Have you ever dreamed about a journey around the world?

Yes, I have.

Let's try it out.

Here we go!

1. Is war an inherent feature of man? Is the human world capable of existing without war?
War is an inherent feature of man. Every generation of young man has ahd a reason to wear a uniform or carry a flag ad go to fight people carrying other flags and wearing other uniforms. When a society signs treaties and agreements, and peace between nations can be proclaimed, the next generation of young men become football hooligans. Not everyone of course, but this is just the inherent need to carry a flag and fight for it. I mean, West Ham aren't so great, are they?
2. Why is a human being able to commit suicide? Do you know
any other creature capable of doing so?

I spent ten minutes writing a really good answer to this, ad then rambled off ona tangent, and couldn't get back to the point, so I'll ust write "I don't know", and I don't know of any animal that commits suicide. I did hear Naomi Campbell singing, though...

3. Have you ever heard about the 2012 year prophecy? What's your opinion about it?
I haven't heard about this one. Is it that the year 2012 will be skipped completely, as everyone will be so off their faces on New Year's Eve 2011, they will all mistakenly put the calendars forward to 2013, and most people won't notice, and those that do will be too embarrassed to say anything?

4. Do you think cruelty depicted in some computer games and movies negatively affects people's behaviour in the real world?

Thanks a lot!

1. Is war an inherent feature of man? Is the human world capable of existing without war?

We all enjoy a bit of a row from time to time; the more powerful you are, the bigger the row. Funnily enough, war is almost never about hating your adversary. It's about avarice, jealousy, and a certain je ne sais quoi like that feeling Bush had about Iraq.

2. Why is a human being able to commit suicide? Do you know any other creature capable of doing so?

Because we can? Suicide is a complicated phenomenon; I can't understand that people are driven to jumping off the roof because of heartache... But in case of severe mental disorders I believe it's simply aggression geared towards own self.

3. Have you ever heard about the 2012 year prophecy? What's your opinion about it?

Nope. I'm not into prophetic visions whatsoever. If it's about the world coming to an end... Well, time to party!

4. Do you think cruelty depicted in some computer games and movies negatively affects people's behaviour in the real world?

Normally, it doesn't. I mean, I've played lots of bloody games, watched hundreds of cruel movies, and I'm still kind of "normal". Still, for some people such behaviors might seem enticing; how many of you wondered what it would be like to eat human flesh after you've watched "Silence of the Lambs"?

5. Have you ever dreamed about a journey around the world?

I'm making progress on it, but I go one step at a time. Covered most of Europe, both Americas, a bit of Asia and Africa...

You miss the point...
The main reason why there are prophecies about the end of the World is exactly this: warning you beforehand, so you could party.
If you haven't heard about it... too bad. *Ding* end of the World *Thanks and goodbye* - Oh well, party? *Not enough time* - &*%^!

1. Is war an inherent feature of man? Is the human world capable of existing without war?
I think that sport especially football can replace wars. Men need to have something where they make a use of testosterone
2. Why is a human being able to commit suicide? Do you know any other creature capable of doing so?

Changing a little bit the question - I muse that if not the fear of the death there would be much more suiciders..

3. Have you ever heard about the 2012 year prophecy? What's your opinion about it?
Yes, yes.. For the first time in a popular programme "Nigdy w zyciu". I used to watch it, used to be scared of - childish things:)

4. Do you think cruelty depicted in some computer games and movies negatively affects people's behaviour in the real world?
Of course - as people become addicted..

Good questions ;)

Let's try it out.

Here we go!

1. Is war an inherent feature of man? Is the human world capable of existing without war?

It may sound stupid, but on an abstract level I see wars as something of a 'natural phenomenon' which can be compared to epidemic or even pandemic. In both cases it is brutal and takes innocent victims, but it can have a cleansing effect and stimulate new generations to thrive and prosper. Until they get bored and the testosterone level in the male population of the society starts brimming and then the volcano erupts again.

And I liked what Keith said about the generation of hooligans who are only there because they don't have the real enemy to fight - just like people develop allergies and autoaggresive responses when their bodies don't have germs to tackle.

I believe the best war deterrent for people is good management. Societies should have responsible and uncorrupt governments which take interest in their people and help them increase their quality of life, especially by stimulating economy, providing education and fair welfare system and giving good example. And promoting alternative ways of venting frustration and aggression, giving plenty of room for creativity, not letting people get bored.

Sounds pretty utopian but there are countries where this is pretty close to reality. On the other hand, our world changes so quickly and a trigger can come like a bolt from the blue. Just like we couldn't predict the current crisis, we may not be able to predict the next war. It's a bit like the butterfly effect. The situation gets hotter and hotter but people carry on living hoping that everything will be fine until they surreptitiously reach the point of no return. They're lucky if they can recognise it on time but in many cases they don't.

2. Why is a human being able to commit suicide? Do you know any other creature capable of doing so?

According to a couple of articles that I found on the Internet, it's mostly a human ability because animals operate largely by meanis of instinct. Since there's nothing like 'suicide instinct' (unlike survival instinct), an animal is unlikely to commit a suicide as such. In other words, a conscious mind and higher intelligence is needed for that (especially the awareness of death in general and the fact that it may result from your actions). This doesn't mean however, that animals can't suffer from depression. They can also do things such as refuse to eat and eventually die of hunger.

3. Have you ever heard about the 2012 year prophecy? What's your opinion about it?

Ha ha, that's my favourite one! There's a full thread about it on GL Astronomia group and according to some speculations, the Earth will slowly stop rotating around its axis, then it will stay put for a few days and then it will suddenly flip over, thus (physically!) reversing the poles so that the North becomes South, etc. And this manouvre will be completed within around an hour, so it will produce hurricanes, earthquakes, erruptions, tsunami and all other possible disasters. And now here's the best bit: apparently various governments have started building shelters for themselves and a chosen few and keep it quiet from unsuspecting public! That's the greatest conspiracy theory I've ever heard, I suggest the new Star Trek should be based on it ;)
