haha... when it was on I was often wondering if it was at all possible to do an effective dubbing of the movie so that foreigners can get the humour!
Another series is "Sami swoi" or "Jak rozpetalem druga wojne swiatowa".... - I can watch it again and again and have a good laugh! :)))
from the newer comedies one can mention:
"Killer", "Kingsize", "Vabank", anything directed by Machulski!
as for sitcoms, eg.: "Rodzina Zastepcza", "I kto tu rzadzi"....

I've done live translating for my wife of various shows and movies. When it comes to material that is not strict comedy, it is pretty easy to grasp. Like "Krzyzacy" which was a pleasure to do. Comedy, (since in Poland we usually use observational humor rather than situational) is much harder to translate. It requires giving a background to almost every joke, it defeats the purpose. The communist era jokes are especially hard. For example: how many people in the western world had to wait in line for toilet paper (and not just any toilet paper, but the one that you can still see wood particles in haha)or pay someone to stand in line for you? (although, I slept on the streets of Newark NJ, in line to get into the Immigration offices for two days, in February with my wife - people did offer to stand in line for me for a small fee of $100/night)... or how many westerners have an idea of what these things are:
It was never a laugh out loud comedy, but more of a "stick it to the man the best way you can" sort of humor that appealed to viewers for reasons other than just it's entertaining values.

yeah, I remember what these were!!! I was a child when we had to use them but still I do remember!
Humour was what kept many people going in those communist times....

I love English humour. Monty Python and other John Cleese achivements (Fish called Wanda, Fawlty Towers), Rowan Atkinson, Benny Hill are some of the highlights and I constantly look for others.
