New Zealand - 2011 ARSOBA Photo Tour

Day 1 – 28 XII
START: Rent a car. Purchase supplies for entire trip (food/drinks). Make way for ROTORUA (233 km, 3h). trekking around volcanic area, geysers.

Day 2 – 29 XII
Make way to New Plymouth (300 km, 4 h). Trek around Mt Egmont - the better version of Mt Fuji

Day 3 – 30 XII
Trek around Mt Egmont.

Day 4 – 31 XII
Make way to Tongariro NP. Trekking across Tongariro. Then towards Lake Taupo. Nightstay: backpackers hostel, twin room or dormitory.

Day 5 – 01 I
We drive across Tolkien's / Jackson's Mordor of Lord of the Rings to Wellington (340 km, 4,5 h). Night on the campground close to ferry port.

Day 6 – 02 I
We take ferry to Picton (4-5 h). Next we drife to Marahau (170 km, 2,5 h) and visit ABEL TASMAN NP. (kayaking, trekking).

Day 7 – 03 I
Visit to WHARARIKI beach then we drive to Punakaiki (pancake rocks – 290 km, 3,5 h), and on to Fox Glacier (240 km, 3 h).

Day 8 – 04 I
Trekking towards Fox Glacier. Afterwards drive to Te Anau (490 km, 6 h).

Day 9 – 05 I
Visit of Fjordlands National Park with trek or boat trips to Doubtful Sound

Day 10 – 06 I
Visit of Fjordlands National Park with trek or boat trips to Milford Sound

Day 11 – 07 I
Leave Te Anau and drive to Invercargill (160 km, 2 h). Then on to Dunedin (260 km, 3,5 h), oin the way stopping to visit the most southern point of New Zealand - Waipapa Point.

Day 12 – 08 I
We visit Otago where we will see beaches wigh penguin colonies. Next on to Lake Tekapo (290 km, 4 h). On the way we stop at Moeraki beach with unusuall rock formations. At the summit of Mt John we will visit astronomical Observatory of the University of Cantenbury/

Day 13 – 09 I
In the morning we shall drive to Christchurch (225 km, 3 h), where we return the car.
THE END

CONDITIONS::
- unless specified otherwise we shall sleep at backpackers hostels, campgrounds, rest areas;
- participation (fifty - fifty) in car costs (rental, insurance, ferry between islands) and gasoline;
- each person pay for accommodation (sleeping, eating) and entry fees for himself;
- plan of the trip is made by Jerzy Arsoba and can only be changed by him (depending of local conditions (weather, roads, point of interest);
- be prepared to trek each day (sometimes 3 km, sometimes 10 km, maybe more);
- be prepared for budget conditions;
- be prepared to sleep under stars, without bed, in a tent, sometimes in the car;
- be prepared to eat canned food - sometimes without boiling;
- Jerzy Arsoba can teach you how to make better photos.
