See the Scottish reaction to the air crash disaster in this month's issue of Scotsbarszcz:

The tragedy of Smolensk has reverberated around the world and people of every nation have expressed not only their condolences to the Polish people but also their shock at the magnitude of the disaster for the politics of the country. The fact that it occurred on the anniversary of the Katyn massacre makes it all the more painful for many. Scotland's First Minister sends his deepest sympathy to the Polish people, who have made a huge contribution to Scottish society. Consul General Tomasz Trafas told the congregation at a special mass in Edinburgh on the evening of the loss that in paying tribute to those who lost their lives, the Polish people must also unite to plan for the future of the country.

After much delay, at last, Issue 5 of Scotsbarszcz is ready to roll. I hope you will agree that this edition has been worth waiting for.

We report on the case of two Polish fruit farm workers who took their Scottish former boss to a tribunal, winning hands down and being awarded a total of £25,000. We also have news on a fatal accident inquiry which looked into the tragic death of another Polish worker who was electrocuted when a metal pole he was carrying in the course of his work came into contact with high-voltage overhead cables.

We have news on local groups who have launched an emergency appeal to raise goods and money for people affected by the flooding disaster in Southern Poland and a report on the formal setting up of a committee to prepare for the restoration of General Maczek’s Great Polish Map of Scotland.

And if you're still hurting that neither Poland nor Scotland made it to South Africa for the World Cup, you can console yourself with the news that the Alternative World Cup will be taking place at St Johnstone’s park in Perth this weekend with Polish stars lining up against Scottish superstrikers... or so they claim.

It's a packed issue, we hope you like it. Please let us know if you do – and if you have any suggestions on how we can improve your Scotsbarszcz, we'll be delighted to listen to your suggestions.

Enjoy!
