I'll say this instead:

Facebook in 2012 is a lot different than Facebook in 2010/2009/2008 etc.

It's rather easy/possible to change your settings. I don't see any type of invitations that I don't want, for instance. Games? I don't see them. Annoying friends? I don't see their "updates". And so on.

It was difficult a couple of years ago, but it is getting better.
