Sorry Andrew but the word: Salute means /Greet in a friendly way/

As one of my professors who taught me the History of English Language had said such sentence one day, that: "The English Language was, and it's like a whore, with all those borrowed/ stolen European words" -(Don't be offended, I think that English is one of the best languages)

Don't be sorry Klejment. But the word salute on its own is not a greeting in English.

Dave, (my name is Lukas by the way ;)

It might be like you say, as it's an act of greeting with friendly words and gestures like bowing or lifting the hat.

On the other hand I don't think I did a huge mistake, as long as Saluting is "an act of greeting, expressed through our body language" ;)
