ROLE / FUNCTION: Ground Station System Engineering Support in Darmstadt / Germany

GENERAL CONDITIONS
START: 01 February 2013
PERIOD: 2 years ++ / 2 options for extension, each option stands for 1 year
LOCATION: Darmstadt
TYPE OF BUSINESS: Science
CONTRACT: Freelancer / full-time employment (both options are possible)
WORKING LANGUAGE: English (French is advantageous)

DEADLINE: 08 October 2012

MUST-HAVE SKILLS / MANDATORY
As mandatory, this experience shall include in particular:
• University degree (or equivalent) in an engineering discipline relevant to the job profile together with the experience and capability to fulfil the assigned tasks with a minimum of supervision;
• He/she shall have, as a prerequisite, a demonstrated experience in a similar function for at least 5 years;
• System Engineering practices and experience on the implementation of the full lifecycle of requirements engineering of a ground segment;
• Ground stations system and subsystem design and implementations for TT&C, mission specific and satellite communications ground stations
• TT&C baseband equipment (including ranging systems) and SLE compliant implementations;
• Specification and system performances of In Orbit Test systems in support of SIOV activities (RF related) for Earth Observation satellites;
• Local and Remote M&C system for ground stations;
• System experience with Link budget analysis and tools in the frequencies relevant to Missions (L-Band, S-Band, C-Band, X-Band, Ku-Band, and Ka-Band).

NICE-TO-HAVE SKILLS / CONSIDERED AS AN ADVANTAGE
In addition, the knowledge and experience of the following processes/areas is considered as an asset:
• Design and requirements engineering of large and complex Earth Observation related ground stations (e.g. MSG PGS or EPS CDAs);
• System requirements and implementations of Mission Data Acquisition baseband equipment (high data rate demodulators and TM processors);
• System Engineering practices and experience on the implementation of the full lifecycle of requirements engineering of a Space Segment ;
• Knowledge of ECSS Standards, and in particular ECSS Engineering Standards in the area of RF and modulation standards;
• Knowledge of CCSDS Recommendations, in particular in the area of RF and modulation standards as well as Space Link Extensions related recommendation;
• Standard RF and microwave tools and S/W package for generation of signal processing related simulations and/or semi-automated measurement procedures for complementing the capabilities of the STC;
• Industry "best practices" on maintenance policies and procedures for ground stations supporting operational programmes (24/7);
• The Consultant shall be in possession of sound management and interpersonal skills to conduct the responsibilities described above autonomously and with a minimum level of supervision, exhibiting good oral and written communications skills, analytical capabilities, and motivation.

TYPE OF BUSINESS: Science
CONTRACT: Freelancer / full-time employment (both options are possible)
WORKING LANGUAGE: English (French is advantageous)

DEADLINE: 15 October 2012

MUST-HAVE SKILLS / MANDATORY
The consultant shall have skills and experience in software development (minimum 10 years):
• University degree in a relevant engineering discipline
• Demonstrate significant knowledge and experience in the area of software development
• Domain Skills
- Extensive experience in the definition, development and maintenance of Satellite Mission Control Function software applications for LEO and/or GEO missions. In particular, experience in the whole life cycle of development of tools dedicated to: telemetry storing and browsing, command history storing and browsing and on-ground modelling of the on-board time-tagged command queues and command timelines,
- Very good knowledge and understanding – with working experience evidence - of space related standards (ECSS and CCSDS) related to space-to-ground interfaces.
• System Development & Maintenance Skills
- Extensive experience in software development and maintenance using a formal life cycle resulting in deliveries to customers. This includes production of requirements, design engineering artefacts and implementation reflecting corrective and evolutive software maintenance activities as well as new applications definition,
- Extensive experience in ground segment AIV related activities (test procedure generation, non-regression testing, requirements verification and validation).
• Software Engineering Skills
- Extensive experience in designing and developing software components and applications using Object Oriented (OO) approach (including design patterns),
- Extensive experience (minimum 10 years) in designing and developing software applications using C++ and Java under UNIX and MS Windows operating systems,
- Extensive experience (minimum 5 years) in developing software applications using interfaces to relational database management systems (RDBMS) and experience with RDBMS engineering and administration,
- Extensive experience (minimum 5 years) in developing web client applications.
• Documentation and Configuration Management Skills
- Very good knowledge of MS Windows Office Suite applications and experience with documentation management systems,
- Experience in using configuration Management and anomaly reporting and tracking tools.

NICE-TO-HAVE SKILLS / CONSIDERED AS AN ADVANTAGE
It would be a distinct advantage for the Consultant to have experience with some of the following:
• Domain Skills
- Knowledge on METOP and/or MSG spacecraft telemetry and command formats,
- SCOS-2000 Mission Control System,
- EPOCH IPS M&C Product Suite from Integral Systems (now KRATOS) and/or MSG CF (Central Facility).
• System Maintenance Skills
- Software support to users and in general to flight control teams,
- Work experience in a 24/7 operational environment characterised by high availability requirements. This includes experience with on-call support to operational systems.
• Software Technology Skills
- IBM DOORS requirement management tool,
- Experience in version Control Systems: CVS and SVN,
- IBM AIX, Solaris and Linux Operating Systems,
- Experience with static and dynamic software analysis tools in support to testing and troubleshooting including tools for automation of functional testing,
- Unified Modelling Language (UML) for software design,
- “Enterprise Architect” and “MagicDraw” CASE tools,
- OSGi Bundles development,
- Software applications using ODBC/JDBC bridges and programmatic interfaces to MySQL RDBMS,
- Engineering and administration of MySQL RDBMS,
- Eclipse IDE for software development,
- Eclipse Rich Client Platform applications development,
- Apache HTTP Server,
- JavaScript, PHP, CSS & HTML for web client application development,
- XML processing: schema design, validation, parser libraries, transformation (XSLT) and XPath,
- Python and Bash scripting languages,
- Inter-process communication mechanisms, in particular TCP/IP and CORBA standards.
• The Consultant shall be able to conduct all activities in an orderly and disciplined manner, shall be able to work calmly and correctly under stress and must be able to work with the minimum of supervision.
