I'm a total layman when it comes to football, UK football in particular, but is Pompey Cup what you in the UK call the Mickey Mouse Cup?

I presume you know what 'Mickey Mouse Cup' means.

Simply a competition without real significance.

In Europe you could say that the 'real' competition was the Champions League, and the 'Europa Cup' was the 'Mickey mouse' Cup (for those teams not good enough to qualify for the elite competition).

Although the FA Cup has decreased in importance due to European competitions, I would not say it was quite a 'Mickey Mouse Cup'.

The Carling Cup, the other domestic cup tournament is more so, given that clubs such as Manchester United often field weakened teams.

Not so the FA Cup.

When people talk about the Cup in the U.K., they mean the F.A. Cup.
